Malta and Gozo are not famous for very cold winters. Although the mercury does not drop too low many of us still hate the few months of what by our standards is miserable weather. Our homes aren't really equipped for winter weather which makes us long for those warm summer days even more.
At Gozo Homes we like putting smiles on faces, so how about a weekend in Gozo? Picture this; a quaint 300 year old farmhouse, tucked away in some forgotten village alley, a fireplace radiating warmth while you are sitting on a comfortable sofa watching a romantic comedy with your partner. Sounds good? How about an accommodation with an indoor jacuzzi, even better, right? Well, you can have it for the weekend or even a whole week.
Below we have listed what we think are top four farmhouses and villas in Gozo perfectly suited and equipped for a short winter holiday in Gozo.
One of our best, if not the best accommodation is this amazing five bedroom, six bathroom authentic farmhouse. Fully detached and set in a beautiful green valley it enjoys stunning views from most of the bedrooms and pool deck. The kitchen is huge and well equipped and is just off a large dining room with marble topped table and oil-burning fireplace. The separate living room overlooks the patio and pool deck. This room also has a fireplace (oil-burning) and comes with cable TV, DVD player and wireless internet. All five bedrooms have air-conditioning (heating and cooling), three of which have en-suites. The master bedroom has an en-suite shower and jacuzzi bath perfect for a relaxing night in. More details and photos of this farmhouse here.
This farmhouse is hands down the best winter accommodation you will find on our website and most probably anywhere in Gozo. Consisting of four bedrooms and four bathrooms this 300 year old farmhouse is well equipped and the kitchen includes a dishwasher so your stay in Gozo is as hassle-free as possible. The highlight of the property is undoubtedly the indoor pool/jacuzzi with hydro-massage. Adorned with stylish (and expensive) tiling this indoor pool can be heated for a small extra charge so your group can enjoy many hours relaxing with a glass of Gozo red in this steamy paradise. All areas of the property are air-conditioned while we can also switch on the central heating, although this is probably is not needed and carries an additional charge. To complete the property, the living room has a large wood burning fireplace. More details of Dar ta' Tonina here.
Set in a private alley, with easy parking space, Villa San Blas is another great winter accommodation. Although newly built and finished it still offers plenty of that Gozitan charm. Comprising five bedrooms and sleeping eleven persons plus an extra two accommodated on folding beds this villa is perfect for large groups. Gas burning heaters are provided while the living room is equipped with a wood burning stove. Villa San Blas enjoys plenty of outside space which includes a pool with colourful LED lighting, garden, patio and a small fish pond. More details, photos and a video here.
This is another large villa located very close to the Nadur village square. It sleeps a total of twelve persons in five bedrooms. The property has four bathrooms, three of which are en-suites. The living room which overlooks the pool and valley views has a large stone fireplace perfect for that wintry evening watching your favourite DVD or having a candle-lit meal. Perfect for large groups which are on a budget. More details here.
It just occurred to me that anyone who has never visited Gozo before, reads this post, will think we have arctic climate in winter. Certainly not arctic, but when you get used to 35 degree weather, temperatures dropping down to 15 degrees are a shock to the system. The good thing is that the sun shines every day in wintry Gozo, sometimes for ten hours, sometimes for two.
We hope you like this delightful selection of accommodation. They all offer something different to guests and you will certainly agree that if these are perfect for a winter stay in summer they are true gems.
Book your holiday in Gozo now before it's too late. The best villas and farmhouses are always the first to go, so whether you want a cosy stay in winter or the ultimate summer holiday visit our website for an outstanding choice.
